Essay About Television For Kids

Television has now become an important part of our daily lives and if you are a kid, it’s going to be very hard for you to stop watching it. TV has many advantages and many parents also use TV as a substitute baby sitter to keep their loved ones busy watching their favorite cartoons or TV shows. A common question arises in minds of many people and that is what positive and negative impact of TV has and how watching TV affects your child.

If we talk about the positive points there are many, such as:-

  • There are a lot of educational shows which air on TV. It is a proven fact that children learn better using audio-video method instead of the traditional teaching via books.
  • Many research studies have shown that children who watch TV are less violent and perform well in tests and studies as compared to the ones who don’t watch TV.
  • Children who watch educational and informative TV shows develop their brain skills faster and learn things easily as compared to the ones who don’t watch TV.
  • The kids who are going to start their school life get better grades, value their studies when they reach high school and become less aggressive.
  • TV is a great way to remove tiredness and fatigue. We all know kids love cartoons and according to studies, cartoons have a soothing and painkilling effect on children. It helps in removing all the tiredness and all the stress your kid is having from daily school work.

We know that there are both pros and cons of everything. We already have listed the positive points of TV and now we will share some negative points of TV with you.

  • Children who lie under 2 years of age can’t get any benefit from watching TV shows. If they sit in front of TV, their time is only getting wasted as this time can be used for the development of their brain, letting them interact with other kids and playing with them.
  • You need to teach some of the most important skills of life to your kids during the childhood phase such as creativity, language and social skills. If your kid is busy watching TV, there won’t be any time to teach him/her all these skills.
  • According to a research, kids who are exposed to a lot of TV noise are not able to concentrate in daily activities and studies.
  • Kids who watch a lot of TV daily are not able to pay attention to teachers and the lessons they are taught because they get accustomed to the fast paying scenes they watch on TV.
  • If you kid is going to school, there are chances that he/she might watch cartoons instead of doing their homework.

Watching TV is very important if you are doing it the right way. Make sure you are around your kid when he/she watches TV so that you can tell them what is right to watch and what isn’t. Harmful Effects of Television on Children

Is television harmful to children? I think television is harmful to children, but I mostly think that it isn't. There are many shows and movies on television that are harmful to children, but there are also many television shows and movies that are not. The biggest influence that television has on children is the violence. Many people think that kids do violent things because they see it on television. For example, I read that one child started to kick his brother because he saw it on television wrestling. When they asked him why he kicked his brother, he said it was cool and he would get up right away just like on television. Now just because there are incidents like that, doesn't mean you can stop the children from watching television. If you were to stop them from watching television, you might as well let them stop listening to some type of music. It is not just shows like wrestling that influence children. I think one of most negative influence to children is the news. They keep showing the same things over and over again. For example, after the school shooting in Colorado, the news kept going back to it again and again and again. There were many shootings right after that one.
I think I am a good example of how television has influenced children. When I was in India there were not too many shows to watch. Only on Sundays did I watch some friendly cartoons. I was one of the top students in my class. I was not forced to any violence or had been a victim to. Then we moved to America. If it was not television I would have not learned English so fast. I watched television shows whenever I had time. Even my teacher told me to watch television so I can improve my English. Now I watch all sorts of shows and movies and I have not changed much. Even though I watch more television than I used to I still behave the same.
There are also many shows that help children improve their skills. For example, Sesame Street teaches kids how to read and write. Its main focus is to help kids.

Is Television Harmful for Children? Essay - Is Television Harmful. I have always found the controversy over children being harmed by television shows interesting. I feel that over the years this topic has changed quite significantly. I know as I was growing up watching television was considerably acceptable since the majority of shows were educational. However, as the shows progress to be less education and more entertainment based, it appears that television is corrupting the minds earlier than my generation. Due to this difference, I began wondering if there are any differences in theories about this topic for kids growing up in the 90’s and the kids growing up today....   [tags: brain development]

Positive Influences of Television Essay - “Adults should trust teens to be responsible for their media choices and listen to them about why the stories they like are important, instead of fixating on their choices only as an opportunity to lecture on ‘having better things to do’ and ‘all the crap that’s on television’ (Campbell). Though not all television is good for teenagers, there is still a great deal of television aimed at teenagers that understand them without wrongly influencing them. The main concern should be whether, in the long run, television is beneficial or damaging to the overall person....   [tags: Television]

There has not been any evidence that television affects the education of children.
